Yao recruiting Dwight
I heard Yao Ming was involved (via Skype) in recruiting Dwight Howard for Houston. He probably spoke glowingly of the opportunity to finally get out of the first round in 2009. And the “Epic Battle” their team had (with Ron Artest and Shane Battier taking turns on Kobe) with the Lakers, going all the way to a Game 7. That’s winning! Well, almost. Come over Dwight, break a leg (or a foot)! /sarcasm
Best Basketball Decision
Kidding aside, going to Houston would be the best basketball decision Dwight Howard can make. I hope he actually makes it to the Rockets, since as a Laker fan, I don’t believe his mental game is up to par to lead a team to several championships. That’s the standard. While his drama fits the LA scene, it doesn’t fit LA and its fans’ “win at all costs” mentality when it comes to Sports.
Change Starts Within
He said he wants the opportunity to chase multiple championships. He’s gotta change his mindset and up his mental game. Whatever team he joins, I’d contact Phil Jackson to be a mentor/mental coach if I was Dwight Howard. Teaming up with Kobe, Harden or Dirk won’t get him multiple championships if he’s not “ALL IN”. HE has to be the difference maker.
That said, if he’s dialed in and engaged, he can win with any team with a bunch of 3-point shooting teammates and 1 or 2 guys who can create off the dribble. Something like the 2009 Orlando Team that lost to Kobe’s Lakers. Yes, I’m rubbing it in. If you want to win, you have to look at the ability of teams to consistently win and put a winning team out there. Unfortunately for me, and other Laker’s fans out there, that means he could remain a Laker.
